View Full Version : Water pump replacement - Pain prediction!
Looks like the water pump has started leaking, any idea of how much pain is involved in changing it?

My prediction: quite a lot of pain is involved - access is difficult.
Good luck though, and let us know how you get on!
I wasn't planning on pioneering this on this site!
Garage have quote £160+VAT, inc. the pump... tempting, but I'll see how many spanners the haynes manual gives it.

Sounds a fair price to me. When I changed my thermostat it took me the best part of a day, and the water pump is a more involved job. Would I do it again? Actually yes as next time it would be quicker and I'm also a bit of a glutton for mechanical punishment in that I actually enjoy the DIY side of things.
Garage has the advantage of experience and perhaps most importantly access to lifts so they can get good access under the car.
I guess it all depends on how much you value your time versus how much you enjoy doing jobs yourself versus how long you can afford to have the car off the road if something goes wrong - I was lucky in that a I had access to another car if I couldn't complete the job in 1 day.

£160 is a bargain for a w/pump change.
Bite their hand off.
We change quite a few, and I can tell you without some correct tools, it can be a hell of a task.
Cheers,
Andy
yeah I'm swaying towards their side, it doesn't look too tough, but access is limited and I just really can't be bothered with locking the cams, slipping off the timing belt yadda yadda. Sorry guys, no "how to" going on here, I'll just do my bit to prop up the economy instead :D
