View Full Version : theBRM.co.uk @ The Classic Car Show at the NEC 14/15/16 November
That's right folks, whoever said that the BRM isn't a classic car is lying :beer2:
I have managed to secure an exhibitor spot in the Classic Car Show 2008 being held at the NEC.
Only have basic details so far but its a 3 day event, probably needing to be there the day before to set up. Will also have to stay in a hotel or accomodation nearby so I can't promise it'll be cheap, but think of it as a mini holiday.
If your interested let me know, however there are limited places (Probably about 8 cars could fit on the stand) so if there is too much interest I will hold a lottery to choose people.
This is THE event for anyone interested in classic cars so grab your chance to show off your car at such a fantastic venue!!

Having done this show myself, you'll need at least £300 for expenses over those three days. We stayed at a Travel Lodge at a place further down the M42. Prices for hotels around the NEC are ridiculous!
In any case, I may well be up for it.

Approximately 8, although I still have to work out placements and spacings, etc when I get the detailed exhibitor info.

thats amazing, didnt think we would get that many on!
Well we could squeeze 11 if we parked them like a carpark, but that would just look daft. As said, I will confirm final numbers when the details come through :D

nice!
Right, after receiving the exhibitor manual and the many many forms that I have to complete for this, some things have come to light.
The stand is unfortunately only large enough to hold 5 cars. Therefore along with my two I will need 3 other willing volunteers.
Anyone wishing to exhibit their car on the stand MUST be able to commit to being free for the following dates:
Thursday 13th November - Setting up from 09:00 - 12:00
Friday 14th November
Saturday 15th November
Sunday 16th November - Cars can only leave after 18:00, although this will be controlled by event staff, so could be 21:00.
When your car is parked in the hall on the Thursday, it CANNOT be moved until the Sunday evening! All cars in the hall will have their batteries disconnected, fuel tanks must be as low as possible and drip trays are required for each car (I might be able to provide these).
I will have access to another car to do ferry runs to get people from accomodation to the NEC, although parking for this and any additional cars people wish to bring is charged at £8 per day.
I will point out that this will not be a terribly cheap event, although I am trying to minimise costs for people as much as possible.
If you are still interested then please PM me, but I must stress that if you decide to commit and pull out at the last minute then I will hunt you down and cut out your heart with a rusty spoon :D

Adam, have you thought about the stand itself? You will need carpet or carpet tiles (stands at the NEC look bloody awful without carpet), display boards, paraphernalia etc. And, of course, you will need a way to get it all to the NEC. Rolls of carpet or tiles are HEAVY!
I wouldn't worry about the drip tray (so what if the oil drips on your own carpet?), disconnecting the battery or all that silly stuff because no one bothers to check.
When I did a stand for 5 cars at the NEC a few years ago it cost almost £2,000 in total, and that included hotel accomodation, transport, the stand (all second hand and scrounged) and all its paraphernalia, electricity for the stand (costly from the NEC organisers). And that was reigning in the costs as much as possible.

Kev - disagree totally they will always check for fuel (under quart of tank) batts maybe not so important.
Adam - can make myself available for those dates just waiting for conformation from work.
Airing on the side of caution.. you will not be out at 16.00 more like 8-9pm like you say Dependant upon those who leave earlier - say Sat eve.
Yep, I have all the stand set-up in hand.
I wont pretend its cheap for me but I believe its worth it :D
Just to keep people updated I have almost completed the forms, had various distractions such as holiday, birthday, etc, but almost there. :D

Im interested
Right, all forms completed and away last week.
I have space for 6 cars on the stand. Each car will have 2 free passes for the show, that's driver and a passenger. Two of these spaces are taken by myself, so that leaves 4 up for grabs.
Remember that this is completely free except for accomodation. I can help with accomodation arrangements but will not pay for people's rooms.
I will need to know if people DEFINITELY want to come to this, if you commit to coming and then pull out I will ban you from this website. May sound harsh, but I need to know that people are committed.
The show WILL involve the following dates/times:
Thursday 13th November - Setting up from 09:00 - 12:00
Friday 14th November
Saturday 15th November
Sunday 16th November - Cars can only leave after 18:00, although this will be controlled by event staff, so could be 21:00.
If you cannot be available at these times then you simply will not be able to get into/out of the hall.
I'm trying to give people as much information as possible to make an informed decision as to whether they can come or not.
Please send me a Private Message if you wish to attend and can commit!
Cheers

If you are struggling I could ask my insurance company to drop mine off for a few days?!
It looks great on the drivers side so we just need to lean it against a wall! :)
what kind of prices are we looking at for accommodation?
what kind of prices are we looking at for accommodation?
A quick search on Travelodge shows the Birmingham Yardley one (5 miles from NEC) will do Thurs, Fri, Sat night for £183.00.
I will search for cheaper options if people want me to.

If anyone is really struggling i may have space at mine (just down the A45) but will have to check with the boss first and clear some space (you know what it is like when you just move houses)
Just as a suggestion, the local B'ham hotels are well aware of this event and this will bump up prices (i believe) there are 2 Ibis hotel on the right side of Cov city centre IF a group can club together (so only use one car) then that could give you some mega discounts..
If anyone want's me to check then i will?
Ad - if you need a hand you have the work email and moby give us a shout.
Two spaces left now!!
I really need these confirmed as filled or will unfortunately have to cancel the event, which I really don't want to do.

the one draw back with being at uni - cant do all of the dates! i wanna pop up and see the stand tho. 2 more places peeps they can be filled!!
90% certain that the track car wont be ready on time now :(
Therefore 3 places left! Really would like these filled, but i'll be having a conversation this lunchtime with the organisers about costs of cancellation. If it costs then we'll just show with what we have, if its free to cancel then I will seriously consider it....

Just a thought, you only need the cars for all four days not the people right. So would a good option be to drop the car off on the thursday stay for a few hours go home and then return on the Sunday for a few hours and retrieve the cars. Will save alot of money. Is this exceptable ???
Thursday 13th November - Setting up from 09:00 - 12:00
Friday 14th November
Saturday 15th November
Sunday 16th November - Cars can only leave after 18:00, although this will be controlled by event staff, so could be 21:00.
That would be fine matey. As long as you didn't mind leaving your keys with me, but I don't really need people there all the time if it saves on accomodation costs for everyone.

Havn't been on here for ages due to pc problems so I've only just come across this.
Congrats to Adam for sorting this, well done mate.
Don't worry about filling the stand with cars. From experience the stands are not always as big as they say they are and often have stantions or supports bang in the middle.
Never seen or had a car checked for low fuel.
If you haven't got a carpet sorted, have a word with the carpet fitters on the day, they often have plenty spare and for a little in their back pocket!!!
Getting in and out with the cars is often chaos, expect to get messed about by jobsworths but just take a chill pill beforehand.
Good luck to all on your stand, I'll pop down off the (OMC....ssshhhhh!) stand over the weekend to say hello:)
Good stuff, i'll certainly be about for a chat over the weekend!
We do have a support in the stand unfortunately but its a pretty central location which is good. Think i'll speak to the carpet fitters in that case, I hadn't ordered any as was trying to keep the cost down.
Can't wait to be honest!! :D
