I've always loved the BRM, remember seeing one on a garage forecourt and lamenting the fact that I didn't have the £8.5k they wanted for it.

Anyhow after I got stung by HGF on a '97 214 SI twice in two years, I rightly or wrongly turned my back on Rover.

So now I have a Xsara Coupe and I'm getting the feels to put it up for sale and I was wondering if it's going to be possible to turn the £1k I'll have into a BRM and live the dream? As I'm sure people on here know the market for them alot better than me, is this achievable?

I've seen alot of BRM's owned by heretics so I also wondered if it's easy to get the standard parts/badges/wheels to return them to an original state?

thanks for ready and any advice is greatly appreciated

MS

Firstly welcome to the site!

It's possible to buy a BRM for £1k, but it probably wont be in the best of conditions. Likely to be being sold due to HGF for that amount of money, but you never know. Parts are available as a lot of people (unfortunately) seem to buy them just to strip them and sell the parts, which is just ludicrous as you'll never see the amount of money from the parts that you would as a whole.

Hope some of that helps, but if you do buy a BRM you'll never look back!

welcome...

if you're patient enough, 1k should see you with one running, maybe a cosmetic dent or something but nothing major.

I think patience may end up being the key word here!

Luckily I don't live too far from work and we have another car so that's not an issue.

Definately look around as I basically rushed into buying mine, saw it liked it and bought it without looking around.

Mine was good apart from HGF within the first week!

On Auto trader there is a 7200 mile BRM for couple of grand, but I am cautious of low milage ones mainly due to not being serviced correctly. Certainly worth checking that belts have been changed, whether HG has ever gone and that servicing has been done.

Yeah I saw that one and figured it to be a mileage mistake at 72k

Update, I'm still lurking around here and have now put operation shit shift into plan, basically I'm weighing all the scrap from around my house/garage and it's going into the BRM fund, Ebay doesn't know what's hit it! woot! :)

So as the new year turns I'll be making good my Xsara Coupe to sell and hitting the classifieds like a man possesed!

Just wanting to revist this thread to let you know of the dreaded sod's law.

Over Xmas my Xsara began to sound like a diesel, I swapped out the oil and filter with no improvement so it's been in the garage this week - turns out to be a blockage in the head not allowing the oil to reach the top of the engine and a £600 bill.

So my BRM fund took a sizeble dent and a few weeks set back but I'l be damned if it's going to stop me selling the Xsara! =]

Sorry it's a 1.8 Vtr. after owning it though I would seriously consider the VTS myself!

www.cxoc.net is your friend if you're looking at Xsara's!
