I'm looking for a BRM, distance isn't a problem but it has to be the right car!
Ideally I would want a car with 60K or less miles and with some service history.
A/C would be an added bonus but its not that important to me.
I've looked at a few so far, a really ropey one with HGF for 550 and a mint one for 2500:wacko: I would like something in between these two:icecream:
Anyone know of any or have one for sale? I'm keeping an eye on pistonheads, ebay and autotrader.

Thanks

Jason

no not new engine thrust bearing so clutch change maybe but drives without fault can just hear the bearing, and yes paid 900 then spent hours making it tidy adding full janspped exhaust bmc air filter front and rear braces new wheels with tyres, new brakes, ht leads, plugs full service, stereo tax etc etc so if you meaning why so much thats why oh and 52mm tb, if i'm going by what i see others at price wise its worth every penny, and yes on flea bay at the moment.

Looks like I'm causing trouble in my first couple of days! Don't throw me off just yet:chair:
Anyway, I think thats good advice. I'm not rushing out and buying one because it could be a costly mistake:(
I'll keep saving and looking:beer2:

not overlly no but its just i'm sick and tired of hoping the engine holds out etc etc i love the car think there smart as fook, and love mine but that niggling thought of reliability is spoiling it, i dont want to get stuck somewhere with my new born when its gone pop!

in all honesty i've had a series of jap turbo cars so brought this to avoid the whole oh is that my turbo blown senario etc, but its turned out with the engines problimatic past, i'm left not to confident, bet i'll keep it though lol and end up putting a zr lump in when she finally does go.

Thrust bearings make a slight noise on mine, has been same noise for over 30k. Garage reckon makes no difference.

not only costly, but the seats might be in better condition, and the exterior to. and If you have to pay 500£ for a much nicer looking one, I wouldn't doubt about it.

Look for one thats been well maintained, mileage doesn't always tell the whole truth. Full service history and a good look around one will always be your best bet before buying.

I wished I looked more at mine as the head gasket went within days of buying the car, but looked immaculate body work and interior wise.

Yeah i do agree on the mileage thing, but I use it as a starting point when looking for a car.
TBH I'm not worried about the mechanical side of things, I can deal with HGF or a clucth etc myself. Its things like the bodywork and interior that I'm more worried about, stuff that will be more difficult to correct.

Watch out for if the VVC mech rattles loudly as well, they are a noisy engine when cold though.

Interior wise I have found the leather wears well if looked after, carpets can fade from sun, parcel shelf can rattle if missing the plastic lugs and rear lights can let water into boot all worth checking when looking at one.

Body work is standard R200 problem wise, rear boot hinges can rust as can the rear arches but mine has never been a problem. The green colour also shows up scratches and chips quite easily though.

Full service history doesn't always mean its been cared for. THe garage positively abused mine when it went for services there many moons ago. I'd never take it a main dealer again

I've noticed that the carpets fade pretty badly:wacko: Which is a bit odd as the red carpet in my 1988 MG metro is as red as when it was new:wacko: The metros weren't known for their high quality of interiors either! lol
The rust thing is confusing. I've seen fairly low mileage ones with nasty arches, and 120K mile cars with perfect ones. You would think they would all corrode at a similar rate! lol
I guess it could be down to how regularly the under arch area is cleaned, as i assume mud build up is the biggest problem.

I clean mine far too regularly for its own good and still get rust, I think its inevitable. Have it now around both front arches and the boot popper :( Going for a complete respray later in the year before the NEC :D
