Could be throttle cable to tight
Either of those could be the cause. Have you still got the plastic 48mm TB?

if you do have the plastic tb i had the same prob with a vi i used to own...it only did it when i was in traffic which was really annoying!! i managed to modify it by using a spring under tention to return the butterfly to idle !!!!abit cheaper than buying a new tb..touch wood my brm's plastic tb is ok at the mo!!

That's a really good idea with the spring, definitely a lot cheaper too
reset with tps or whatever it is and seems to have worked a treat :D
of course, that should say THE tps as opposed to with. Fingers - do as you're told!!

yeah the spring idea was a good cheap fix...only thing is my radio controled savage 21 car lost its exhaust mount spring..but hey needs must!!!and it worked!!! the iacv or better known stepper motor can cause irratic idle as well...glad the potentimeter reset worked , that can also cause idle grief!!

Dom give me a little more info please as i'm currently experiencing this issue!
crap, now I gotta remember it... I think it's, with the car off:
Switch to ignition 2 (don't start).
Fully depress the accelerator 5 times
Switch ignition off
That might not be quite correct, but will probably jog someones memory if it isn't...
