It is believed (although not supported by archelogical evidences due to romans effort to destroy all evidences) St Dominus was the first bishop in Salona from Slavic nations, and the first to be tortured and driven to death because of its believes. Salona is today town just bordering with Split, while Split emerged from Diocletians palace emperor who tortured St Domnius. At that time Salona was the center of cultural life in Dalmatia and the oldest place of christianity on this side of Adriatic sea. Today St Domnius is praised as protector of Split and this is the celebration of the whole town.
