My tailgate window exploded yesterday and the Auto Windscreens “technician” tasked with re-using the trim failed to do that. He is fitting a screen as I speak but where can I get a new trim? I appreciate this might mean another new screen but I will take that challenge when it comes.
Your windscreen man ought to be carrying the generic trim which whilst a tad bigger does an ok job. The oe part is generally nla. except for falling on redundant stock.
Many of our gatherings end up at events with auto-jumbles, if you're part of any it might be worth a look.
Rover 200 1995-99 and Rover 25 or MG ZR to 2004, I believe. Anybody see one, I’ll have it! Be prepared for stupid questions as to fitting it. Meantime, the screen without the finisher actually looks quite smart though not original.
Be aware that Rover 25 and MG ZR were manufactured without any trim around rear windscreen. That trim was deleted as part of Project Drive savings. So only Rover 200 series 1995-1999 were ever had trim around rear windscreen. That is one of the reasons why this trim is NLA since it stopped to be produced some 25 years ago.
My original understanding was that project drive was for the MY52 releases, meaning that the original 25s and ZRs had the trim, but I'll happily defer to those who know better.
Yes, you got me thinking to recheck if there is VIN number for deletion and there is. Rear window finisher was deleted in 13 November 2002 starting with VIN RF 691034. So up to that time and VIN there was number of Rover 25 and MG ZRs with rear window trim finisher. After that time rear window glass was enlarged in order to cover gap which finisher filled
This is more difficult to find. I will need to look deeply since it is not part of Part numbers listings we have on the site. Maybe I find time over weekend.
Ah, thank you Roverlike, so coincident with finisher delete was a larger screen? That was not in my mind.. I shall have to take a look at the next opportunity.
Unfortunately trims don't appear to be available due to it being the rear window all the universal trims are too wide as they are made for laminated windscreens, the rear window is just toughened. I have a friend who owns his own windscreen company and I actually did it for a while. When i refitted 305, (that was smashed) I took the glass out of a rover 25 (04 reg) tailgate thinking the trims would be available however when I came to refit the glass and my mate bringing two trims from the suppliers, one from autoglass and other from pilkington both the trims appeared to big and wouldn't let the glass sit nice. My theory is, the glass was made slightly bigger for later cars due to the trim delete so all new glass will be slightly bigger hence why it gave the impression the trim was too big, unfortunately glass supplier part number do not go along with this theory as all 200/25/zr carry the same glass part number (7027 for our cars). Also the original trim came on the glass from manufacturer like it does with the front screen, the only option for an original looks is to get a 200 window and remove it, however this would need to be done using a knife on the back end of the glass rather than the traditional method which would involve cutting the trim before removing the window. Personally I would just let it be unless you can find a 200 tailgate or a early 25 with the trim, below is the part number which all glass companies use which, I still have access to the same database which autoglass use and this is where this information came from.
