Thought i would say i little after talking to pat and Grahame at gayden regarding temp gauge, i forgot to show the modification i made over winter after it was doing my head in that the temp gauge went up to half way before fan kicked in, normally sits just under and doesn't move once upto temp, when doing car up i replaced both the temp sensor (blue gauge @brown ecu) for new genuine ones from rimmers, all seem good part from gauge moving up a little before fan kicked in, i decided to fit an aftermarket gauge to the car to check the temps.

After getting a coolant elbow from a scrap zr i made a little boss and tig welded that boss into the elbow after drilling then tapped out 1/8npt to suit the new sensor, when all set up i could see the brm runs at around 85c to 90c while driving (got a 88c stat) but the fan doesn't come on till 107c ment to be 104c and at 105c starts to go half way on gauge so it got me thinking, i had put a new sensor on from rimmers but to cut a long story short the problem was down to the new brown ecu sensor that i had bought from rimmers got one from a local motor factors now fan kicks in at 103c and goes off at 95/96c and gauge stays just under halfway. Just goes to show that buying genuine parts from rimmers might not be as good as you think. Aftermarket temp gauge was bought online and is made by koso the beauty about it that i could take it off put other elbow on and it would be back to standard.

Interesting as I have a Rimmers one on S15 and it too cuts in a bit late for my liking

Might be worth getting another, think it was only round £12 from motor factors, should have known something was not right as every other rover i have just stays in same place on temp gauge once warm.

I bought blue (gauge) sensor from Rimmers some time ago, as original one split appart. ECU (brown) one is still original. My gauge sits just below half mark and does not move from resting place once warm, weather fans kick in or not. On these HOT weather fans kick in rather regularly.

A few years back I had a series of blue sensors which were of very doubtful quality and failed in short succession. Following problems with the multi-relay module I fitted a Revotec thermostatic control and I'm very happy with that. If anything, it probably cuts in a bit too early, but I'd rather be on the safe side!
